Sarah Zuniga
is a New York born singer-songwriter and guitarist who has made Athens, Georgia her home. This “guitarist serves up seven pleasantly crafted nuggets of melodic folk-pop that rise above typical coffeehouse fodder thanks to Zúñiga’s strong voice and thoughtful arrangements”, a review by Athens’ Flagpole newspaper on Zúñiga’s debut album, Someday Soon. Ecuadorian-Nicaraguan singer/songwriter Sarah Zúniga’s shows are like listening to a fun mixtape compiled of deep-felt and catchy indie folk-rock and Latin tunes. From notably packing out Athens’ renowned Hendershots’ Coffee Bar to playing The Georgia Theatre, 40 Watt, and mainstage Athfest, events such as Feminenergy at The Vinyl- Atlanta, The Athens in Harmony benefit concert at The Foundry, Athens, taking the stage at Musician’s Corner, Nashville, and across pubs in Ireland and England. Sarah has opened up for acts such as Scarlett Stitch, winners of the Georgia Music Awards for Best Rock Band, critically-acclaimed Americana singer/songwriter Elliot Bronson, and many more. Recent shows include performances for the 2018 Athens Music Awards ceremony at the historic Morton Theatre, where she was nominated for best singer/songwriter for the year, and at the 40 Watt for the release of her new single "Heart of Mine". 25% of her debut album, Someday Soon, go towards funding the non-profit international organization, MADRE, for their goal specific project to help indigenous women in northern Nicaragua get the tools and education to begin organic sustainable farming within their community. In 2017, Zúñiga’s most popular single, ‘People Do Crazy Things For Love’, was a finalist for the very first annual Vic Chesnutt Award, honoring Athens’ beloved songwriter.
